Description

This is the best book on Abbey: over five inches thick between two volumes and reproducing 200 Abbey illustrations. Written shortly after Abbey's death, this is a chronicle of his life and career and the 200 illustrations are finely reproduced plates.

The introduction states that the 200 illustrations were selected by John Singer Sargent! The majority of the illustrations were produced by the photogravure process, others by the collotype method, a few from the original engravings.

This particular copy has been handsomely rebound in three-quarter polished tan calf (leather) with red title labels and marbled paper covering the upgraded boards.

The condition of this set is Very Good+. As usual, the corners are rubbed with boards showing. However the hinges and binding are very sound, and the interior is very tight and clean. All told, the condition is  above average for these volumes.
