Description

An original 1971 first printing of this mainstream publication of Bode's strips from Cavalier Magazine 1969-70.

Back in early 1970s, Bantam Books and other mainstream publishers tried to embrace counterculture. They discovered underground comix and decided to introduce the biggest names in comix to the bookstores and shopping malls of America.

For a brief period, works by Vaughn Bode, Robert Crumb, Gilbert Shelton, Dan O'Neill, and other underground cartoonists were repackaged in consumer friendly editions and could be found next to Peanuts, Beetle Bailey, Family Circus, and other collections of newspaper strips in bookstores such as Barnes & Nobles, B. Dalton Bookseller, and Waldenbooks.
