This copy, printed in October 1943, has a great period gift inscription "To Opal Otto, / A fellow cat lover / Sincerely, / Naomi / Christmas 1943"

Clare Turlay Newberry (1903 - 1970) was an American writer and illustrator of 17 published children's books, who achieved fame for her drawings of cats, the subject of all but three of her books. Four of her works were named Caldecott Honor Books.
