An illustration of Taormina, Sicily for the article "Golden Cities of Sicily" by Henry James Forman in Harper's Magazine, August 1923. Gruger joined Forman on a research trip to Sicily prior to creating the illustrations for this Harper's series and subsequent book. A romantic image of three young tourists taking in an expanse of Greek ruins, Sicilian rooftops and distant mountains. This large original is also an excellent example of Gruger's technique perfectly suited for close study of every stroke. Double-matted & framed.
