Description

The primary reference on this multifaceted artist. He was a pen & ink virtuoso, painted the "I Want You" Uncle Sam recruiting poster, wrote and directed silent film shorts, and wrote and illustrated several books. He was a bon vivant who lived the romantic high life in New York and Hollywood! He was profoundly influenced by Charles Dana Gibson and Flagg in turn influenced Frank Godwin, Everett Raymond Kinstler, and others.

The book has 70 color plates and 175 black & white illustrations divided into four sections: Posters, Pen and Ink Illustrations, Magazine Illustrations, and Paintings and Drawings. Plus a well-illustrated biographical text and a chronology.
