A one-of-a-kind item from Burne Hogarth, master of Tarzan, teacher of art, and founder of New York's School of Visual Arts. In the early 1990s, Hogarth, just turning 80 years old, collaborated with writer Harry Hurwitz on a proposed comics mini-series, Morphos the Shapechanger. This complex fantasy was intended to run four issues, only one of which was completed before Hogarth's death in 1994.
The present item is a printed treatment of the story, dated 1991, which outlines the entire plot in 38 typewritten pages. It is illustrated with 28 beautiful full-page presentation drawings of characters and scenes from the story. The treatment is printed on 66 single-sided sheets and velobound with front and back covers on buff card stock. The first nine pages have been copy-edited by Hogarth, with crossouts in green colored pencil and pencilled notes in Hogarth's distictive hand.
