At the end of his Warren period, Wrightson signed with Christopher Enterprises to create a series of large single illustrations for posters. This is Wrightson at his artistic and creative peak. The prints were reproduced in A Look Back, but they were meant to be seen poster-size, and each contains detail and nuance only fully appreciable in these prints.
Berni Wrightson's twelve images were issued both as posters and as limited signed and numbered prints. The S&N editions were printed on a heavier, textured paper stock. These prints were available by subscription. The subscriber got the same number on all the prints. This print, number #2 of 100, went to their very first subscriber (they kept #1 for themselves).
This painting of Siegfried standing with his bloodstained sword over the slain dragon later appeared on the cover of Heavy Metal magazine #5.
