The Art of Michael Whelan - S&N Slipcased Edition

In stock

This is #115 of 500 S&N copies. In addition to hand coloring the illustration on the limitation page, Whelan has hand-proofed this edition and has added original ink drawings on page 13 and 25.

The most comprehensive book to date on the artist. 62 paintings reproduced full page with text and other drawings and art opposite. Three interviews with Whelan: with Anne McCaffrey about his early life; with Terry Booth about his work; and with David Cherry about materials and methods.

From Michael Whelan's site:

Michael produced this special edition of his last coffee table book himself. He designed every aspect and chose all the materials, including the custom dustjacket, the blind debossing of the title and his distinctive signature, and the slipcase hand bound in Japanese silk.He paints each limitation leaf in different styles and colors and then he signs and numbers it, ensuring that each book is unique. In effect, there is a hand-tinted print on museum quality, deckle-edged paper hand bound into each volume. As an added bonus, Michael does an original drawing (Remarque) somewhere in the book in pencil, pen and ink, or colored pencil. The original art alone is worth the price, but you are sure to appreciate all the fine detail in this extraordinary collector's item.
