On the occasion of "A Retrospective Exhibition of His Works" in 1973, a monograph on this regional painter (1887-1975) best known for his depression era paintings of midwestern Americana and people.

The artist contributes two essays: one introducing his mural "Joplin at the Turn of the Century 1896-1906" and another on the works in the exhibition and his philosophy of art.
