From the publisher:

SAMURAI. SENSEI. LEGEND.

Denys Cowan is a preeminent creator of the Milestone Media comic book universe, memorable characters, and an animation director and producer of Static Shock and The Boondocks, while showing his chops as an incredible storyteller in essential runs of legendary characters like Batman, Black Panther, Deathlok and The Question.

Through nearly ten hours of interviews, Denys discusses all aspects of his career as a young Black artist from Queens, New York, who interned with comic greats including Rich Buckler and Neal Adams and rose to be commonly regarded as one of the greatest African-American comic book creators of all time, if not one of the most highly regarded artists in the industry, regardless of ethnicity.

In addition to the comprehensive interviews, a wealth of artwork — countless samples of preliminary sketches, character designs, finished pages, and projects that haven’t (as of yet) seen the light of day — from over 2000 images scanned for inclusion in this 300+ page book, as well as some of his earliest and latest designs that await you inside!

Also included is a collection of insights from industry veterans who have worked with and/or admired Denys throughout his career. Notable names include Bill Sienkiewicz, Dan DiDio, David Walker, Jackson “Butch” Guice, Keith Pollard, and Jimmy Palmiotti.

Denys Cowan’s story is inspiring, entertaining, and educational and deserves to be experienced by longtime fans, aspiring artists, and anyone interested in the creative process of one of the most impactful creators working in comics today.
