Notes From the Shadowed City is the travelogue of a young man who sets off on a journey to research magical swords. He finds himself stranded in a land he does not know and enters a city with no name over which looms an ominous floating citadel. As he seeks a way home, he fills his notebook with drawings and observations of his life in this strange place. It is full of masked swordsmen, cities that walk, ancient gods, swords made from petrified trees and dragons that move mountains. There's also a mysterious woman who captures his heart.

From the imagination of award-winning artist Jeffrey Alan Love comes this illustrated tale of swords and magic, memory and loss, and the overwhelming desire to find a way home no matter the cost. His first book detailing this fantastic journey, Notes From the Shadowed City is told through small moments that create a larger narrative. Love employs his renowned artistry to create a heavily visual narrative boasting more than seventy illustrations, and every spread features his art along with handwritten text--a captivating journal entry that expands into a visual symphony. As you follow in the footsteps of this young man, you'll be intrigued to seek out the Shadowed City.

Praise for Notes From the Shadowed City

"A wonderfully strange and atmospheric journey." -- Joe Abercrombie

"Digs right down to the roots of fantasy, clears away everything unnecessary and comes up with something vivid and fresh." -- Peter Higgins, author of The Wolfhound Century trilogy

"Jeffrey Alan Love, writing as an endlessly fascinated amnesiac, fills his notebook with fragments of observation, pieces of behaviour, gods, strangeness and charm, in a desperate attempt to make sense of it all. To create a kind of personal Tarot out of these icons and wastrels." -- Dave McKean

"Jeffrey Alan Love's Notes From The Shadowed City, with its unique style of illustration and imagination, is a mythic tale with all the dread, beauty, and cryptic mystery of a dream." -- Jeffrey Ford

"This book is pure joy, beautiful to look at, magical and funny. The balance between the writing and the images is perfect. Practically every page seeps with a mythic imagination, leaving us space to dream on our own. Wonderful!" -- John Harris, artist

"What is there to say? Jeffrey Alan Love is just plain brilliant." -- Mike Mignola

"Love's strange imagery comes in like transmissions from an arid, alien landscape. The message is ancient, the script encoded, the picture is dusty and bold. Most highly recommended." -- Paul Pope

"Jeffrey Alan Love is the honest to God absolute Real Deal." -- Bill Sienkiewicz

"Haunting, mysterious, and timeless, Notes from the Shadowed City takes us on a journey through the Stygian landscapes of our dreams and nightmares." -- Brom

"Notes from the Shadowed City is a monolithic, playful, exquisite tour de force. Beautifully designed and constructed, it's a masterpiece of considered restraint." -- Sean Phillips

    1. "In Notes from the Shadowed City, Jeffrey Alan Love creates a delicate, dark, and beautifully illustrated tale. Conjuring medieval knights, winged riders, and magic swords, these modern day illuminations take the reader on a journey through a shadow-realm of moons and mysteries. A book full of gloom and wonder." -- Gerard Way
