"Soul: The Magic of Animated Cinema from Snow White to Grendizer "

A full color catalogue of the exhibition in Florence, Italy.

From June 17 to November 14 2021 the halls of Palazzo Medici Riccardi, completely renovated during the shutdown, welcome "Anima: The Magic of Animated Cinema from Snow White to Grendizer," which for the first time exhibits to the public over five hundred original drawings from the best known and most loved animated films.

Promoted by the City of Florence in collaboration with the NEMO Academy of Florence, the exhibition is curated by Federica Fabbri (animator and head of the animation program at NEMO), Sandro Cleuzo (animator Disney, Dreamworks and Warner Bros), Luca Chiarotti and Francesco Mariotti (art directors and teachers at the Academy), and Francesco Chiatante (Japanese animation historian and director).

The exhibition displays illustrations made in the pre-production and production phase of Disney masterpieces such as "Sleeping Beauty", "Snow White", "Robin Hood", "101 Dalmatians", "The Sword in the Stone" and many others; of the famous Hanna-Barbera TV series; of famous Japanese anime; and of many other films such as "In search of the enchanted valley", "Fievel lands in America" and"Anastasia".

Anima also traces the history of animated cinema, thanks to unique pieces of inestimable historical value that will enrich the exhibition: from the precious frame of the first animation in the modern sense, Gertie the Dinosaur, which dates back to 1914 and is one of the approximately one hundred remained around the world, from the iconic Mickey Mouse of the early 1930s, to the recent concepts of the latest 3D films.

The works on display come from the collection of Anima Firenze, a body of about eight thousand pieces housed in the premises of the NEMO Academy and supported by continuous donations from international artists such as Sandro Cleuzo, Don Bluth, Gary Goldman and Yoichi Kotabe, just to name a few.
