A posthumous collection of exquisite architectural renderings as well as other renderings and sketchbook drawings by Florian Afflerbach.

Out of print.

From the publisher:

"Florian Afflerbach - The Illustrator" pays tribute to the esteemed and beloved artist and his "free drawing", as he himself called his work. The idea for the book was conceived by his family and friends. With the support of 399 people from all over the world, financing was secured through a crowdfunding campaign in 2017.

Florian Afflerbach experienced the world through drawing. His life, his ideas, his view of the world - his sketchbooks read like diaries. His overwhelmingly fine and detailed works tell of his fascination, his passion and his talent.

"Florian Afflerbach. The Illustrator" shows the range of his art. Over 300 selected freehand drawings show this diversity, from the Le Corbusier house to the NSU Ro 80, from pencil to watercolor, from Siegen to São Paolo. Together with texts from his companions, a unique memory of the artist, architect, architecture mediator and urban sketcher has been created.

About the artist:

With a pencil and a watercolor brush, Florian Afflerbach (1980-2016) shows us the world in his very special way. Incredibly fine and skillful. From exciting perspectives. Sometimes reduced to the essentials, sometimes full of wonderful details. He shared his passion and talent in publications, exhibitions and with students and like-minded people all over the world.

Florian Afflerbach was an architect and architecture mediator, research assistant at the Chair of Interior Design and Design at the University of Siegen and the Chair of Architectural Representation at the TU Dortmund, author, urban sketcher, car lover, city designer and so much more. He made it his mission to revive the art of drawing, especially in architecture studies - because "it is precisely the spontaneous and intuitive freehand drawing that is able to authentically transfer the designer's thoughts onto a sheet of paper." He coined the phrase: "You can only see well with a pencil."

During his architecture studies in Siegen, Florian Afflerbach went to Paris for a semester. The city finally awakened the artist in him. Ever since Paris, he was always on the go with a sketchbook and pencils, both in everyday life and on trips that took him to Sao Paolo, New York and Venice, among other places.

At just 35 years old, he was taken from this life far too early.
