A Fall of Stardust portfolio was published in 1999 by Vess's own Green Man Press and contained 29 full color plates measuring 6.5 x 10 inches and two prose chapbooks in a color printed folder.

A Fall of Stardust was released to help raise money to offset Vess's wife Karen's medical bills after she was seriously injured in a car accident.

The color plates are by 29 different artists, including Vess, Michael Kaluta, Geoff Darrow, Stan Sakai, Gary Gianni, Brian Froud, Mike Mignola, Bryan Talbot, P. Craig Russell, Michael Zulli, Dave McKean, Jeff Smith, Moebius, Tony Di'Terlizzi, Terry Moore, Lorenzo Mattotti, Trina Robbins and Steve Leialoha, William Stout, and others.

The chapbooks were written by Neil Gaiman and Susanna Clarke, author of the bestselling Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, each is illustrated with pen & ink artwork by Vess.

The 29 color plates are all Very Fine. Susanna Clarke chapbook is Very Fine. Gaiman chapbook has a mild crease to the upper corner of two pages but is otherwise Very Fine. Folder has a few mild creases along the folds and two 3/8-inch tears at the top of the spine.
