Reproduces a number of pieces from the extremely rare art books Negro Drawings (Harlem) and The Prince of Wales (caricatures). Text in both English and Spanish. Published in Spain. Limited to 5000 copies.

From the publisher:

This book constitutes an approach to the multifaceted work of Miguel Covarrubias from various perspectives. It contains material from exhibitions held to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of his birth and presents four "visions" of his activities as caricaturist, book illustrator, muralist, ethnographer, cultural promoter, and traveler. Beautifully designed and printed, it covers all of the artist's creative periods, from New York to the South Seas, and from pre-Hispanic Mexico to the twentieth century. It includes essays by Adriana Williams, the author of an excellent biography of Covarrubias, by eminent cultural critic Carlos Monsiváis, and by Juan Coronel Rivera, Mercurio López, and Selva Hernández. Wide-ranging in subject matter and meticulously detailed, it will be of interest not only to those wishing an introduction to this fascinating artist, but also to scholars of his work.
