A very sharp copy of this volume featuring Finlay's 1940-1955 pulp illustrations. Quality reproduction on slick paper from the original artwork, the majority reproduced the same size as the original art.

From the dustjacket:

Virgil Finlay (1914_1971) began his professional art career with Weird Tales magazine in 1935. Over the next three decades his artwork appeared in virtually every science fiction or fantasy magazine published.

This book, a companion to our 1975 volume,The Book of Virgil Finlay, presents more than 120 of Finlay's fine black and white drawings with emphasis placed on the 1940-42 and 1947-55 periods of his thirty-five year career.

The majority of the illustrations are reproduced in the exact size they were done by the artist. Most show examples of his fine penwork and use of the stipple and cross-hatch techniques that helped make him the most popular fantasy artist of his day - if not the entire history of the pulp magazine field.

During his career, Finlay portrayed scenes from stories by most of the better known fantasy authors - A. Merritt, Henry Kuttner, H. G. Wells, Francis Stevens, Ray Cummings, Murray Leinster, Robert E. Howard, Jack Vance, A. E. Van Vogt, H. Rider Haggard, H. P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, and many others.

In the years since his untimely death, Finlay's fame and following have expanded beyond the confines of the pulp magazine field. This book is designed to provide that growing audience with further examples of the mans unique talent.
