Before "Animerica", "Anime Invasion" and "Newtype USA", there was ANIMAG. The first anime magazine in the U.S. created in October of 1987.
Animag (1987–1993): Originally a fanzine that evolved into a professional publication, it was essential for early adopters, featuring mecha, Gundam, and early tape-trading culture.
Animag Vol. 2 No. 3 (1992) was the final issue.
