This large deluxe illustrated gift book from 1909 is well worn, but complete. Any fan of James Montgomery Flagg or Golden Age illustration needs this book.
In an oblong format uniform with the Charles Dana Gibson illustration collections published at the same time, this was the only volume devoted to the great Golden Age illustrator James Montgomery Flagg.
This 84-page volume contains:
40 full-page pen & ink illustrations on the right-hand pages
41 illustrations in various media (pen & ink with wash, inkwash, pencil, etc.) on the left-hand pages
When this collection was made, Flagg was creating pen & ink illustrations for books and magazines and paintings and watercolors for magazine covers.
Just few years later, Flagg would paint his famous Uncle Sam "I Want You" for the U.S. WWI effort.
