This is the book that brought Syd Mead to mainstream attention in 1979. After years of illustrating concept cars/vehicles for industrial and automotive trade publications and magazines, this fantasy art book cast him as a visionary, a futurist, a designer of possible science fiction worlds.

Dragon's Dream had previously published in this same format Roger Dean's "Views" in 1976, and in 1979, the same year as this book, "The Studio" about Jeff Jones, Mike Kaluta, Barry Smith, and Berni Wrightson.

This was the very first full retrospective of this designer and artist. A scarce book. The book has a sewn binding, with the text block glued to the soft cover. Due to the notoriously weak glue, often found in poor condition. This is a well above average copy.
