Sorolla y la Hispanic Society: una visión de la España de entresiglos

An exhibition catalog with 92 color plates in the catalogue proper with an additional 14 color plates and 160 black & white illustrations in the fore chapters.

"The Sorolla exhibition included in this book contains a significant number of his works related to the commission he received to create a series of paintings for the Hispanic Society of America building. The commission had two aspects: a group of large scenes dedicated to the theme of the diversity of the Spanish regions and a group of portraits of Spanish intellectuals and artists of the time. What has been brought together for this occasion is a selection of portraits and one of preparatory studies for the cycle of the regions of Spain. These are little-known works and, in some cases, unpublished or never exhibited; In the case of an artist of Sorolla's historical importance and international fame, this fact alone should be enough to arouse general public interest. But what is also presented is a chapter whose interpretation, often distorted, has weighed, not always positively, on its fortunes."
