Paco Roca is one of the main representatives of the new wave of Spanish comic artists. He began his career as a regular contributor to the magazines published in Spain. His critically acclaimed graphic novel about old age, 'Rimples' ('Rides'), was published directly in France by Delcourt in 2007. It won him several awards, and was adapted into an an animated film in 2011.
From the publisher:
In this graphic novel that inspired the award-winning animated film, two men whimsically escape an assisted living home to avoid confinement.
Retired bank manager Emilio, suffering from Alzheimer's, is taken to an assisted living home by his son. He befriends his roommate Miguel, an overconfident ladies' man. Together, they employ clever tricks to keep the doctors from noticing Emilio's ongoing deterioration — and keep him from being transferred to the dreaded confinement of the top floor of the facility. ("Better to die than to end up there.") Their determination to stay active as individuals and maintain their dignity culminates in an adventurous escape.
