This incredible portrait of the creature was designed to be the rear endpaper illustration for Wrightson's Frankenstein. Depending upon which edition of Frankenstein you own, you only know it in a cropped form. The first printing hardcover only reproduced the left half of the illustration, cutting out the creature entirely!
From the publisher:
Depicting the last line of Mary Shelley's classic novel, as the creature is finally alone on the ice--
“He was soon borne away by the waves, and lost in darkness and distance“
The bitter cold and desolate landscape echoing his deep isolation, perfectly captured by Bernie's masterful ink work.
Presented at it's drawn size of 16x20″ in a hand-numbered and embossed edition of 300.
Reproduced from scans of the original art board, the exacting detail of the line work in Wrightson's work has never before been reproduced so clearly.
Hand-numbered and embossed in the bottom right corner with Bernie's distinctive "W"
Limited to 300 copies worldwide.
Printed on archival acid free 100% cotton rag natural white paper, with archival inks, this fine art giclee is produced in-house at the Nakatomi Print Labs.
