An Artists' Edition of Richard Corben's most famous work DEN. Fully authorized by the Corben estate. Produced to the highest stands by Delirium BD in France, it features excellent reproduction and it is absolutely beautiful inside and out. To date, these are the only "Artist Editions" in the world devoted to Richard Corben's work, and they will not be reissued!

From the crowdfunding campaign:

After the revelation of Richard CORBEN's talent in the first book of DEN, discover the masterpiece of the saga, with DEN 2, "MUVOVUM", considered to this day as one of the absolute peaks of the artistic career of the 2019 Angoulême Grand Prix winner!

This complete story is offered in two exceptional limited editions with an exclusive foreword by Guillermo del TORO!

More than three decades after his last publication in French, and following the magnificent success of the limited editions produced for the publication of DEN's first book, we're delighted to bring you DEN 2 in two editions made entirely from the artist's original plates.

The importance of this work in Richard CORBEN's immense career cannot be underestimated and DEN 2 MUVOVUM is often regarded as THE fantasy masterpiece of its author and unquestionably the one of the DEN saga!

As many are aware, DEN 1 was an essential work, not only because it revealed the talent of its author, but also because it allowed everyone to discover and appreciate his artistic approach, his research and technical experimentations, and to see his style assert itself as the pages went by.

Published in 1981, DEN 2 MUVOVUM is another essential work in CORBEN's production: totally mastered, it literally sublimates his technique, both in drawing and in color, brilliantly demonstrating for all to see, a totally brilliant approach that is unique in the world of comic art.

To enable you to discover and appreciate this work in the best possible conditions, we are offering you a limited, numbered, large-format 28x37.5 cm "BRUTE" edition of 550. Acclaimed far beyond France's borders, the BRUTE edition of DEN 1 allowed you to discover the artist's originals as they were, only lettered in French. To date, these are the only "Artist Editions" in the world devoted to Richard CORBEN's work, and they will not be reissued!

From Scott Vanderploeg's review on AEindex.org:

To prepare for this review I read the recent Dark Horse release of Den 2 Muvovum and it cemented the feeling I've had over the years about Corben's art: I don't like it coloured. It doesn't matter which work it is, I never took a shine to him. The Hellboy stuff I didn't mind, but I would try every so often on the Den work. My purchase of the first Den Édition Brute was because I felt it was an important work that may never see an AE format book in English. After being blown away by Corben's original art, I ordered this book. Once again, the original art is amazing and does not need colour.

Once again Delirium has presented the complete story in full size scans of the original art boards, this time with an [exclusive] introduction by Guillermo Del Toro. This was a crowdfunded work, and it reached all its financial tiers and is provided in a slipcase. All the art was scanned by Dona Corben and provided to Dark Horse for English language works and to Delirium for French language works. The book is a limited numbered edition out of 550, of which I received 058. There are also 15 “hors commerce/HC" copies, or not for resale, the equivalent of AP/artist proofs.

The scans are without issue: clean and clear. Corben's use of mixed mediums shines on every page: simply glorious to behold. Correction fluid used throughout. No visible pencils. The occasional production note in the margin. Every page has the title and page number written in the top left of the art. No gradients in the inks. It continues to astound me how the text was replaced with French and it looks native to the page. The pages have all aged at the same rate, from light tanning to yellowing.

Corben, Richard
