A rare newsstand one-shot special collecting the comic feature "From Hustler Magazine, The Adventures of Honey Hooker." Written & illustrated by James McQuade. (With a painted cover by Paul Gulacy.) Much harder to find than Playboy's Little Annie Fanny (1966 and 1972) or Penthouse's Oh, Wicked Wanda! (1975)--and clearly a notch below either artistically--this is a historical nugget: the third serialized episodic comic strip to come out of the men's magazines, it shows how each of these three strips reflected the philosophy of the magazines. Little Annie Fanny was T&A and All-American. Oh, Wicked Wanda! was European and more open without any actual sex. Honey Hooker was blue collar, lowbrow, and very explicit verbally and visually.
The introduction:
In January 1975 the world was introduced to a red-pelted hoozie who was ready to take on all comers, when "The Adventures of Honey Hooker" premiered in the seventh issue of HUSTLER. Illustrated by James McQuade, Honey became a permanent fixture in the magazine no one took seriously at the time. The cartoon tart, who was often a vehicle used to satirize the American way of life, was put through her paces by McQuade through the February 1977 issue. This special edition puts all of McQuade's "Honey Hooker" episodes at your finger-tips, including a bonus: one previously unpublished, six-page sequence at the end of this book.
Author and cartoonist McQuade has illustrated countless magazine articles and books, and applied his talents to book-jacket design and paperback and record album covers. He claims he enjoyed creative freedom presentation of Honey: "...a joyously uninhibited romp into satire and carnality with all the stops pulled out."
So, sit back, pop the top off your favorite brew and enjoy the adventures of America's most infamous cartoon hooker.
