In 1998 SOLO was born as a hobby to disconnect from the long list of commissions for licensed characters that came to my desk. Those first pages of SOLO were not much graphically, but they served to entertain and give free rein to sharp pencils more hooligan.

I never imagined that many years later I would draw the same story again simply to be consistent with the graphic quality of previous books. It was also the first story to be published uninked. For a long time I had worked hard to find a way to color on the pencil and preserve the freshness and imprint of the stroke, despite not considering myself a bad inker I think the decision was right, since I managed to keep the most organic part under the digital coloring of the drawing.

Perhaps for that reason this is the most careful and clean pencil work of all that I have done and, in my opinion, the best drawing of all the SOLO books. Maybe, if only for that, it's worth having. I like these kinds of books a lot.

On Solo:

I have been writing and drawing stories of this character and his particular universe since 1997. SOLO is a post apocalyptic series. In that devastated universe there are no resources and the only way to survive is to eat another living being, with the peculiarity that there are no herbivores, only carnivores, so that the encounters are inevitably bloody and more considering that almost everyone goes armed and, above all, they are always hungry. Thus we can read in one of his episodes something like: "We are not heroes or cowards, neither victims nor executioners, only souls who will never know why they exist. We are only flesh that kills to live, we are meat that dies to give life."
