To mark François Avril's exhibition, “324 dessins” (324 drawings), which took place in Brussels in 2021, the Huberty & Breyne gallery is publishing a book of the same name, in partnership with the magazine Les Arts dessinés. This exhibition catalog brings together all of the works on display. Interior scenes, landscapes, cities, and architectural settings follow one another throughout the pages. This is a unique opportunity to discover the sensitive world of François Avril.

Born in Paris in 1961, François Avril is a titan of contemporary graphic art, celebrated for an aesthetic that marries minimalist precision with sophisticated urbanity. A valedictorian graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués, Avril emerged as a leading figure of the "École de Pigalle," a movement alongside artists like Ted Benoit and Jacques de Loustal that sought to dissolve the boundaries between comics, advertising, and fine art.

Avril’s signature style is rooted in the "Clear Line" (Ligne Claire) tradition, characterized by lean, elegant linework and a masterful use of negative space. This refined approach led to early collaborations with the legendary Yves Chaland and eventually evolved into a prolific career across multiple disciplines. His atmospheric illustrations of cityscapes and interior lives have graced the pages of The New Yorker, Libération, and Le Figaro.
