In 1974, Marvel publisher Stan Lee and underground pioneer Denis Kitchen collaborated on a comic magazine that sought to introduce underground comix to a newsstand audience: Comix Book. Edited by Kitchen, it featured new material by some of the best known underground comix creators of the time.
Issue #2 includes the second appearance of Art Spiegelman's original 3-page Maus story. Barefootz stories by Howard Cruse, Snappy Sammy Smoot by Skip Williamson, and other material by Tim Boxell, Leslie Cabarga, Sharon Rudahl, Joel Beck, Trina Robbins, Justin Green, Denis Kitchen, Basil Wolverton, Willy Murphy, Kim Deitch, Ted Richards, John Pound, Mike Ploog, Kelly Freas, and S. Clay Wilson (a full-page drawing).
