An illustration created for the 1927 Dutch Treat Club Yearbook.
The scene is a dark-haired nude standing next to her escort before a blacksmith at his anvil. The caption (calligraphed by Cornwell) reads, "Marco Polo Makes Ready to Leave for the Orient ......(Welding the Chastity Belt)."
The illustration appears on page 52 opening Clarence Buddington Kelland's skit "Marco Polo: An Exercise in Publicity."
An unusual piece in many respects. A rare pen & ink piece by this illustrator who worked primarily in oil. A rare nude. A bawdy scene.
Signed in the lower left by Cornwell.
