In 1953 and 1954, while working as an assistant to Al Capp, Frank Frazetta drew a series of eight covers for Famous Funnies comics #209 through #216, all featuring the character Buck Rogers.
Frazetta said in 1995: "I did those covers at a time when I had total mastery; I could draw anything and draw it superbly. Remember that, up to that point, I had been drawing in pen and ink for 10 years professionally. I was drawing every day. The more you draw, the better it gets. At least, that's the way it worked with me. I tried to vary my approach on each one of the Famous Funnies covers -- different subjects and different rendering techniques. I was very pleased with those Famous Funnies covers; they are me at my very best."
In 1975, Russ Cochran published the Frank Frazetta Famous Funnies Portfolio. The eight cover illustrations were printed on heavy stock, reproduced from the original drawings, without type or logos, with color added by Frazetta. Despite not being signed or numbered, this portfolio is much scarcer than The Lord of the Rings, Kubla Khan, or Women of the Ages portfolios.
Reproduced at nearly the same size as the 14" x 14.5" original.
Mild wear to corners outside of image area. The image area is bright and sharp. Would look great matted.
