From the back cover:
In June, 2005, Disneyland guests were treated to something not seen in over 40 years -- a new steam locomotive, resplendent in the red enamel and polished brass, began operating on the Park's main line to the delight of Disneyland Railroad fans everywhere.
The locomotive, christened Ward Kimball after the famous Disney animator and rail fan, may have been new to Disneyland, but its history spans more than a century. In this engaging tale, author Steve DeGaetano takes us along on a touching ride through time as he recounts the history of the little 1902 Baldwin engine first known as Maud L. That tiny plantation teakettle escaped the fate of so many steam engines, having been saved from the scrapper's torch in the 1940s. After a complete restoration, the engine's amusement park career began in Ohio and, through a series of trades, eventually ended up at Disneyland. Today, after being rebuilt in the grand Disney tradition, the locomotive proudly wears the number 5, and is the first new Disneyland Railroad steamer added to the fleet since 1959.
