Fusains is French for Charcoals. Minimal text, fully bilingual in English and French.

From the publisher:

In Fusains, Jacques de Loustal, a leading figure in contemporary comics, reveals a more intimate and contemplative side of his work. Featuring 150 drawings, this volume highlights the graphic elegance, sensitivity, and mastery of line that have earned the author his reputation — far beyond the world of the 9th art.

Known for his albums with spellbinding atmospheres, his stories tinged with melancholy, and his unique sense of narrative simplicity, Loustal explores here a more stripped-down territory: charcoal, the raw material par excellence. These drawings — landscapes, architecture, or portraits suspended in time — reveal the evocative power of an artist who knows how to suggest a story with just a few dark lines.

Fusains is both an art book and an immersion into the imagination of an author whose reputation in the world of comics lends each image a singular power. Fans of his work will rediscover that characteristic visual poetry; others will discover a Loustal who is more direct, more tactile, almost intimate.

An essential volume for illustration enthusiasts, collectors of coffee table books… and anyone who wishes to get up close to the magic of the line work of a comic book legend.
