Jean Frisano (1927-1987) was the subject of a major art exhibition at the 2020 Angouleme Festival: "De Tarzan à Marvel, l'Amérique fantasmée" ("From Tarzan to Marvel, Fantasized America"). Frisano was the primary cover artist for the French editions of Marvel Comics from 1969 to 1987 and his painted covers filled the dreams of two generations of French Marvel zombies.

In lieu of a standard exhibition catalogue, the Angouleme Festival created this "Coffret" consisting of 80 color portfolio plates and a 32-page softcover book (with 55 additional color illustrations) in a hardcover folder in a slipcase. A beautifully designed and produced package. The 80 color plates are all reproductions from the original art--original cover paintings for Strange, Titan, and other Marvel comics, without titles or text. This portfolio was limited to only 700 copies and sold out during the 2020 Angouleme Festival. It is completely out of print.

From the publisher:

This set presented in the form of a portfolio offers 80 reproductions of the fabulous covers of the magazine Strange, made in gouache by Jean Frisano. It is accompanied by a 32-page booklet on this exceptional cartoonist, who introduced France to a whole section of American pop culture, especially superheroes, in the 1970s and 1980s.
