This is the Dutch edition of Serge Clerc's 2014 art book l'Integrale Rock which sold out of its 2500-copy limitation in record time. This is the first reprinting of that hard-to-find volume in any language.

An archival collection of Serge Clerc's rock comics, illustrations, posters, album and magazine covers. This beautiful book brings together some 275 drawings, comics and illustrations by Serge Clerc, including many unpublished pieces.

This Dutch edition of l'Integrale Rock is being published in two volumes.

From the publisher:

In the early 1970s, Serge Clerc was still at school when he heard the music of The Rolling Stones and The Doors and went crazy. In the conservative France of that time, he was an exception. Fortunately, he was able to share his enthusiasm for music and comics with a few friends. A few years later, Clerc left for the cosmopolitan city of Paris to try his luck. He devoted himself to interviewing all the rock musicians he could find! He recorded the results -- very originally -- in text and images! He was soon able to place his pieces with various French music magazines, but after a while he also made a splash in the British music press!

Rock! is the result of this work in a unique diptych. The first part begins with drawings of rockers and bands in the 1970s, some of whom, such as The Sex Pistols and Blondie, would break through internationally. They are numerous unique, sometimes rough, but above all humorous portraits.

With an introduction by Christophe Quillien.

From the back cover:

ROCK! by Serge Clerc is a feast of recognition for (former) punks and new wavers and a surprising journey of discovery for lovers of the atomic style. My first acquaintance with Serge Clerc was in 1978 thanks to Le dessinateur espion!, his first French-language album for which he provided me with a drawing of The Stranglers. Three years later, in 1981, I was co-publisher of Achter de sterren, the first album by Clerc to be published in the Netherlands. Since then, I have followed with interest his countless illustrations and comics that have been published over the years in magazines such as Métal hurlant, Rock&Folk, New Musical Express and The Face. I cut out some of the drawings, but I never got around to collecting them in a scrapbook. That is no longer necessary and I can throw away those, sometimes yellowed, clippings, because all those beautiful illustrations, comics, book covers and LP covers are now collected in two parts, of which this is the first part. -- Peter de Raaf [gallery owner and comic expert]
