Julien Delval is a French painter and illustrator who in his personal work creates scenes from ancient worlds, mythology and fantasy inspired by classical painting and imagery.

The sketches, drawings and fragments collected here "will take their place in more complex compositions within my paintings and illustrations" Julien Delval writes, "but it is here in their sketched forms that their live out their most vibrant moments."

Julien Delval, born in 1972, studied fine art and began his career as an illustrator for role-playing company Multisim. The connections he made at the firm led to the realization of numerous book covers for different publishing houses. Today, after working in comics, he works again in the gaming sector, mainly with Days of Wonder, and spends time devoted to his personal art work, sponsored by the Daniel Maghen Gallery in Paris.

This is the fourth volume in the Sketch.Box collection, an exclusive and unprecedented project that Editions Caurette and Spiridon Giannakis have set up together. Their aim is to work with artists to create an incredible collection of sketchbooks. Each book will showcase the talents of an extraordinary illustrator, and will delight art collectors and connoisseurs alike.
